Herlinda MoralesSanta Fe de la Laguna, Mexico
I live with my husband Vidal, we have one daughter, and she has two years old. I work with my parents, Guadalupe and Gilberto in their family workshop in Santa Fe de la Laguna. The candelabras are an expression of the contemporary indigenous spirituality that continues to combine both Purepecha and Catholic symbols. The candelabras are covered with images of angeles, birds, flowers, and suns. These pieces play a central part of Purépecha rituals and traditional ceremonies. I form part of the Purepecha womens organization, Uarhi, which was founded by Purepecha leader Guadalupe Hernandez.

My dream is to be able to have the materials necessary to be able to create pieces and I can participate in the Fairs of New York, Los Angeles and ENART, and that us of the income sufficient to have a worthy life, for us and our children. We hope that in five years have greater stability and in ten years to have a recognized factory and credited well.

This loan was funded entirely by Sommer Designs.
