Rosario Bautizta

Rosario Bautizta – Santa Fe de la Laguna, Mexico
My name is Rosario Lucas Bautizta and I am 43 years old. We live in the community of Santa Fe de la Laguna which is on the lake of Pátzcuaro in Mexico. In our community people fish, farm, and create and sell pottery. This town is very ancient and was an indigenous Purepecha community with very old roots long before the Spanish arrived.
I live with Nicolás my husband, my two daughters, and Nicolas’ aunt in our house and workshop. We are always close to our family members and maintaining our traditions is very important to us. Our work is very special and we have recuperated ancient techniques and we decorate our pieces with beautiful motifs of the natural world surrounding us.
Our work is very laborious and we do not produce much. It is only Nicolás and I that work in our home and we like that because it allows us to work at our own rhythm and not exceed ourselves. Your loan will allow us to buy prime materials and tools which will allow us to improve the quality of our work and make our work easier for us.
We comprise part of the Lead-Free Pottery project and hope to be a successful example in our community in lead-free production, to share what we have learned with our community and to teach other potters the way, and to have a good life.
We have always worked to provide a good life for us and our daughters. For our daughters we hope to finish building our home, improve our workshop space in our home, have an area to store our pieces, an area to decorate our pieces, and a good kiln. We also want our daughters to be happy and to have the opportunity to study.
