In Izmit, Turkey, in the early 1990s, an earthquake destroyed the community, killing 20,000 people and leaving much of the city in ruin. As a result, many lost not just their loved ones, but their livelihood, too. But because the women had learned the traditional Turkish arts of weaving lace, sewing and jewelry design, Nest microfinance loans have enabled them to start craft-based businesses that can support their families.
